Reasons why my blog is not popular…

Posted by roushdat on January 31, 2007

10 days! 10 days ago, I posted my first blog entry here and my blog is still not as popular as others…But being your future president, I just can’t give up like that huh! So I have decided to dedicate this 10th blog posting to the reasons why I have only a few daily visits on my blog.

1. Hey man you just created a blog and you want it to become popular so quickly? You think you are a super-star or what???

My answer: If a future president is a super-star, sure I am ;) But I guess the problem is that most people out there are not even aware of the fact that their future president has got a blog :p All I have to do is to let them know about it.

2.Maybe your postings are boring?

My answer: I guess you are partly right, but I’m working hard to change that trend. For example, I am trying to avoid as far as possible, lenghty essay-type entries. And also, writing much, doesn’t simply implies boredom, mind you. Maybe my blog’s style is kinda different from others out there, and it take some time for people to adapt to a new style…and am a patient future president ;)

3.You got to put nice girlz pix, and your traffic will surge ;)

My answer: I respect girls, c’mon they are humans too! I don’t want to use them as products to increase my traffic. Better I get only a few visits per day rather than scoring thousands of hits but using girls pix wrongly. Blogs featuring dirty pix are numerous out there; so if you want that type of blog, you better look elsewhere :p

4.Your blog lacks interesting things like games for example…

My answer: Hmm a few readers have told me that too and you are right :) In the near future I will start puting some riddles, small games, quizes etc… But for this to be a success initially, I need your support; Participate, send me comments, voice out your opinion!

5.You talk too much nonsense!

My answer: Oh yeah, that’s mee :p But the guy talking nonsense is also your future president, mind you! And I just don’t feel at ease without talking all these stuffs which you consider as ‘nonsense’, so I’ve got to spit it out somehow ;) Bear with me :D

Bearrrrrrrrrrrrrrr with meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Manager of today, president of tomorrow ;)

Posted by roushdat on January 30, 2007

Greetings! I’ve been ‘elected’ as project manager for a computer project involving some 25 students from my class. I was the only candidate for that position so i was automatically accepted as the manager :D But that’s not my final objective though, I’m still well focused on the world’s presidency :p Let’s say being the manager of 25 students may be a small simulation for presiding over the whole world which is my ultimate goal…

Today, the president had a free shower at the university, in the bus and also while walking home from the bus stop…Hehe, it was damn so cooool :D The rain water pouring over your face, your shoes filled with water wowwwwwwww it’s been months or even years that I’ve not enjoyed myself in the rain so well :p

On this rainy, I promise to all my people that when I become your president, fresh water will be free of charge for all domestic usage :D Nobody should be denied access to that resource in any way :)

And for the small maths question from my previous post, check the answer here: http://www.nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2352∂=index&refpage=monthindex.php

Enjoy the rain!

Scheduling for a president ;)

Posted by roushdat on January 29, 2007

Attended a lecture on Operating Systems the other day and the lecturer was talking over and over again about 1 term which hit my mind and buzzed me up; SCHEDULING

So wat’s this scheduling all about huh? To begin with, for those who are not that familiar with “operating system” itself, just think it as windows! yep, microsoft’s windows that most of you got running on your pc, it’s an operating system ;)

And for those whose eyes are widening up, looking for a stick to beat me up….Oh yeah, u linux users :p LINUX is also another example of a good operating system and which comes in different fragrance if we can put it like that…At the university, we have the famous Ubuntu and at home I’m using Fedora core 6 btw ;)

Coming back to scheduling, briefly, it concerns the operating system sending jobs to the processor to be worked upon and give you the output. (Not being technical here….) And there are many jobs that are send to the processor, but the latter can handle 1 job at a given time…That’s where scheduling fits in ;) The way the jobs are sent, their order, their time they spend with the processor etc is all about scheduling.

As a good future president…I was thinking about you, my people ;) How can I apply ‘the best’ scheduling practices in order to better serve UUU!

Let’s do some assumptions here….The ‘P’rocessor == me, the ‘P’resident and the ‘j’obs ==your needs and wants ;)

So, the president will have to fulfill your needs and wants (process your jobs) in the best way possible. I have investigated some of the existing scheduling practices already being used in operating systems and how they can be used by a technologically hungry president :p

First position, we have the famous, “first-come-first-served” . Very easy to do, the first people who comes to me, he will obtain wat he wants before others ;) But It can be quite unfair if there are other people with more important needs waiting behind the first. Maybe the first one wants a BMW car but the one after him, got an urgent need and which is life-threatening huh! Thus, we can say, first-come-first-served is gud only where everybody got the same level of urgency, which is not realistic at all….

The Round-Robin usually comes as a kind of improvement for first-come-first-served…For the sake of my presidency, I will rename it to Round-Roushdat :D Sounds nicer huh? ( All those who say yes, will get a small gift from the president, that’s not bribery, don’t worry :p ) Round-Roushdat is simply different from First Come First Served in the sense that, each person will have a limited time slot given to him. Suppose I set it to 5 minutes, after fulfilling the needs of some1 for that time, even if all his needs and wants have not been completely fulfilled, off he jumps to the back of the queue. Kinda solve my problem huh? NOOOOOOOOOOO :( What if some1 with an urgent need taking 6 minutes??? Will he have to go and wait in the queue again??? The president says it’s not fair :( I feel the pain of my people u know….

We also have another way; Shortest Process Next…The name itself says it all…Let’s rename it to: Shortest Job Next ;) So, the person who got something to ask which will take the least time, comes to me next. But what if some people lie and pretend their jobs will take the least amount of time??? Not to be a bad president, but I will have to take some actions against those people…They will be given 12 KFC Zingers to eat in the span of 6 minutes ;) Am I not a gud president???

Hey got 3 more scheduling principle to talk about but am kinda fed up with it right now. I prefer thinking about doing the job for my people rather than spending so much time on “how to get the job done”.

====================================================================

Here’s a small maths game for u guyz (I’m not so gud in maths, can you help out your president?)

There are 24 students queuing in a straight line.

Raj is the 18th from the front, Rajnee is the 13th from the back.

How many students are there between Raj and Rajnee?

===================================================================

Coming for tomorrow….well, wat’s coming next? Surprizeee ;)

Keep reading, that’s the best way to know about it :p

In the darkness of my night…

Posted by roushdat on January 28, 2007

Some of you may have noticed last night (saturday) that i was not online, nor had any new entries been posted in my blog last evening. Reason: sabotage

OOOPS, Some guyz are really after me it seems :S I had already written a lot for this post, my internet connection just went down and i lost it all except for the first line.

So i was saying, last night there was a power failure which I assumed was a general electricity failure for at least the whole region where i live and that was a situation which I’m used to :p Boy was i wrong…Most of the houses I could see from my room had lights on, only a few friendly neighbours were in the darkness like me…Was that so, just to prevent me from getting help? Were they being punished for being friends with me? Are they in the dark because they support the future president? To these questions, no answers i could obtain, perhaps, maybe….can be…

It all started at about 7pm, I switched off my pc’s screen, and went to have dinner. My whole family was in the kitchen when all the lights in the house began fading away…After some 30 seconds, all the lights were gone except the kitchen one : Do lights have in-built artificial intelligence for power-saving now??? I wasn’t aware if we had these in Mauritius :S were you? So we all had our dinner and some 30 minutes later I was back in my room, my pc was off, the UPS could stand only 10 minutes. I went to bed and waited, praying; Oh god, give me the electricity back, Oh god, may those who have carried out this sabotage bee unsuccessful next time, punish them :p

I continued to wait, minutes passed by, then it became hours, still no power, i was there, in complete darkness…The last time i remember getting the time, it was around 10:30pm, still no power. And then, sleep won over. I was up at 4:35am in the morning today hoping to have a better day with full power ;)

Thunder revisited :p

Posted by roushdat on January 26, 2007

Yep…we got thunder rolls here :p Have not seen any lightning flash yet though but mum said it was worse earlier during daytime. I think large parts of Mauritius is experiencing that kind of rainy and ‘thundering’ weather these days….Just went out with my camera to take a a few pics for u guyz….but i didn’t get what i was expecting :S No black coulds here :p not a single drop of rain. In the north till east, very far away, the clouds are there…so i guess all that thunder is originating far enough from my house :p

The sky viewed from outside my room

That’s the sky viewed from outside my room on the first floor.

In Mauritius, the “very caring” government has been providing free bus travelling to all full time students and elders who are 60 or above. We were grateful enough but it seems that some buses give more than free travelling ;) While returning home today, I didn’t pay for the bus + additionally, i received a free on-the-way-shower :p I was quietly sleeping….dreaming about how I will rule over my people in the near future when some water droplets spoiled my dreams…I woke up fearing an attack from the evil forces again…but it was only a free shower provided by the bus company ;) It was raining heavily outside and the bus was so old that it apeared to be heaving holes everywhere u could think about. The rain water was attacking from all directions, IT WAS AN AMBUSH on the future president by some evil-sided rain. Brave as I am, I didn’t move, I waited! Some other fellow travellers were being attacked too….Some couldn’t resist and escaped the battefield, trying to find shelter on other seats. I pulled my bag over myself for some protecting while I prepare to strike back. I took out my purse and searched for my weapons…couldn’t find any…strange…I’ve been disarmed during my sleep, that’s for sure! I’ve been betrayed by my bodyguards. Anyway, I got some paper with which i could defend myself. I folded the papers and tried to block the holes from where the rain was attacking. This greatly decreased the attack’s intentisity and the driver was moving out his bus out of harm’s way as fast as he could. After some 10minutes, we were able to get away from the enemy but the battle was not won, the enemy remained as strong as it was before the attack. Due to lack of weaponry, my team and I decided to fight another day.

Future President, Roushdat: “The enemy of my enemy is my temporary ‘friend’ ;)

hi people

Posted by roushdat on January 25, 2007

Just woke up, was feeling so sleepyyyyy….it’s now 7pm, i’ve been in bed since 4pm i think. Did some archery training today after nearly 1 week….I use a 30 pounds samick recurve bow and for the time being I shoot up to a distance of 30 metres. At home I shoot a box which u can see below ;)

target

Poor box, i took that picture last week, and today after my shooting, it was in worse condition :p

Went to have dinner, and am now back…Well am not going to write much because i’ve received feedbacks from a few readers that my text is too lenghty and tiresome to read ;)

As for the clouds…only 1 friend replied and he got it right, you can check his comment in the previous post, his name is pyanee. Well, he cheated though, I saw him googling for the answer :p

And for the email address, usually you should avoid writing it in a single word because there are some programs used by some spammer to crawl the internet, identify email addresses and collect them to be used by the spammer for sending those hundreds of unsolicited emails that fill up your mailboxes. Another way of preventing your email add from being collected is to write it on an image and then insert that image in any online internet page you have. You can use software like paint brush, adobe photoshop, paint shop pro or any other graphical software you know.

I will stop here tonight so that some readers who couldn’t read the previous posts completely can catch up ;) More interesting things (like audio for example) to come tomorrow night on my blog :p

Stay connected !

Black clouds :p

Posted by roushdat on January 24, 2007

haha, so let me guess: You are probably thinking what this crazy future president have to say about black clouds…we will get bored…

clouds.jpg

W R O N G

Hmmm the title is “black clouds” simply because i couldn’t think of any title right now. Scanning for some inspiration, i peeked through the window and noticed that the sky was nowhere to be seen, hidden by a dark layer of ugly looking clouds threatening to rain us down! So here is where is got that title ;) I normally enjoy those black clouds which have that rolling thunder effects and flashes, it’s sooo cooool :p

Quick Quiz: What’s the name given to the type of clouds who have those terrifically amazing effects? (reply as coment to this post, and I’ll list down the names of those who got the right answer, no cheating huh! no googling as well :p )

I’m thinking of a few ways to interact with my blog readers, so you must have seen my small chat window on the right part of this page…Now the small quiz question also….hmm do you have any other ideas? Don’t hesitate, send your comments or even a private msg in my google mail: roushdat “at” gmail.com (replace the “at” with @). For those who can’t figure out why I wrote my email add like that, hang on, You will get the answer in my next post. Or those who know, well tell your friends na ;) Send the answer as comments :p

So let’s be serious now! hahahaha, r u kidding? The future president being serious? Noooooooooooooooooo can’t be :p Hmm our president had quite a nice day today; no lateness whatsoever. And despite those empty threats obtained the previous night from someone telling that she will wake up the president earlier than usual ( at 4:30 am) for morning prayers. Well seems the power of the president clamped her eyes shut :p Not a single disturbances at all :D

On the bus stop….I prayed though….Oh god, get me a bus that will not have any mechanical problems…Oh got, get me a bus which is waterproof for I forgot my rainsuit at home…Oh god, may the traffic not me jammed :p

I forgot about something very important though…I completed missed the sleeping prayer part and I was unable to sleep at all :( As for the other prayers, they worked just fine ;) Amazing how god can be so kind at times :p Well, he always is…it’s just that we are the ones who don’t realise it, surely he knows what’s best for us, right ;)

So I reached university quite early, I enjoy listing down in my BDM (brain for ‘dimoune’ memory; ‘dimoune’= ‘human’) Those who like going to university early…There is quite a large number I must say and they are there for different reasons;

Many come to meet their boyfriends or girlfriends….the weather at Reduit is so romantic in the early morning…cool temperature, usual showers, view of the mountain, sugarcane fields, the perfume of freshly cut, how do we call that? weed, grass? these green things on the football ground… ;) Then you get the cats and the dogs living side by side like husbands and wives :p Isn’t that a romantic place to be?

A few students come to the university early simply because they are compelled to do so quite often, I explain, suppose their class starts at 8:30am, and they will reach university at 7:40am if they take a bus at 6:40am. The next bus available is at 6:55am and this bus will reach university at around 8:45am and maybe 9am if there is traffic jam..So you seen, the student has no choice but to come early…thats the category where I fit in ;) And the time i used as example is the real time…

And finally we have some students who just come early, i think because their house bite them :p They can’t stay at home and are always too eager to come to the university as early as possible…I met one from that type this morning itself…He will know himself, cause he does read this blog :p To him and his type i say: eh man, enjoy your sleep at home before the time comes when even you want to sleep, you won’t get that opportunity, so better take it now and come later to the university, leave the romantic place free for lovers :p

So our president had a lecture who supposedly was 2 hours but, the lecturer was kinda “confused” according to his own words about whether our class was supposed to be a lecture or a lab session ;)

And in the afternoon, The same lecturer had a lab session with us, was for 2hours again, he came for some 15 minutes and gave us our instructions. Well it’s a Web technology module and I think in this module, the lecturer will simply act as a guide to us, we will have to do our own efforts to lean, self-learning module ;)

After the lab, (I was the first student out of the lab, for fear i might miss my bus) I went to the bus parking area, an old bus was waiting for me, with its front engine cover wide open :S I rememered god again….Oh god, let this bus bring me home on time ;) Once again, god agreed and here I ammmm :p

Eh don’t forget about the quiz question (clouds…) and also about my email address. Waiting for your comments dudes…

The boredom of an unusually uneventful day…

Posted by roushdat on January 23, 2007

boring2.jpgMost of us always find our days so tough…all these things to do, work, shopping, meetings. But how many among us have taken the time to think about a scenario where we simply had nothing to do; you just sit and lead your life. Trust me, it won’t be as nice as a life filled up with events. The secret recipe: a right balance between the stressful and troublesome occurances with the rewarding and enjoyable moments of life.

Today, our future president went to the university to meet his people, mix up among them and follow a computer science course ;) . Everything went fine for the first 2 hours of lecture and a laboratory session was to begin some 30 minutes later…OOOPS, next lab seesion cancelled! I’m sure this would have brought more than a smile for most students. I was happy toooo :p hey, the president also is happy when classes get cancelled ;)

So I suddenly had 3 hours free as the next lecture was scheduled not earlier that 1pm.Thinking what I could do with that unplanned free time… EAT? ok, let’s eat :p in 15minutes, my lunch was over ( just a simple bread like most students and some water, no presidential lunch huh…I want to live the life of my people to better understand as i always say ). Only 15mins spend?!!! So much time remaining….I decided to try my luck in the library going through some software engineering notes.

A small tip for those who want to sleep while being at the university of mauritius: You take some notes with you, find one of those boxes where you can sit withought being disturbed. Start reading the notes, after 1 page, surely you will feel drowsy. Put away your notes, fold your arms on the table, and lean forward to rest your head on your arms. Very very important: Make sure none of your friends know that you are in the library and put off your mobile phone; these are common disturbances :p Enjoy your sleeep ;)

That’s the way, u got to sleep ;)

This picture is real, this guy was really sleeping in a university library in Malaysia. Courtesy of my friend Ahfoo.

Hmmm if you think i slept too…well you are wrong, I just tried the tip myself to test it, and it was working fine up to the drowsy part….then something happened! i FORGOT about ‘excess fluid’ in the body and it desperately wanted to come out :p So i had to end break up my sleeping exercise and go for the toilet.

After which, I prefered going to the computer lab instead of the library. Spent some time there till the next lecture and surprise! :S

The lecturer caught a cold and simply told us that he won’t be able to deliver lecture today nor any other day this week. He tried to describe as briefly as possible the module information leaflet ( information about the module) and after some 15-20 minutes, the cold took over him and he started coughing. So that’s all….I went to the bus stop as usual, waited for some 45minutes before catching a bus home…Oh yeah, i wait like ordinary people too, am just one from among you afterall , right? But I’m also Roushdat, your future president lolz :p

The curse of the tortoise :S

Posted by roushdat on January 22, 2007

The cursing tortoiseWell this morning, our future president woke up with his mobile phone’s alarm…Strangely enough, yesterday, the alarm time was set to 5:30am and today, it started its melodious waking call at 5:40am. I wondered why it was so…i listed up in my mind the possible causes;

the most obvious to most of us: wrong time setting by me? checked-not the problem

the phone’s battery was down? checked-what the hell, i charged it yesterday itself, and it’still fully charged

deffect in the phone’s clock? checked-been using it for more than a week, and the time seems fine!

somebody wanted me to be late and did some magical spell on the phone? error: check failed…unabled to identified exact entity but there has been a magical breach on the mobile phone :S

Damn!!! I knew it! Some dark forces are working against meee, they don’t want me to achieve my objectives…Their strategy: show to others that I am not on time, they wanna discredit my puntuality….10 minutes!!! They succeeded in stealing me 10 minutes from my day! Nevertheless, I woke up, more ready than ever for the challenges of the day.

It was only then that I realised something else was wrong…the 10 minutes of delay was not all that the evil forced did….I could severe pains in my neck…godddd they broke my neck or what??? Oh c’mon roush, you are not dead yet :p Well, what was that pain then??? I went downstairs to consult my Human-supercomputer (mum) and ask for some information about that problem of mine…The answer was simply : “Torti coli”, for those who don’t understand what these two words mean, am gonna explain; “torti”== tortoise and “coli” hmm i think it means sticky, together, we get “Sticky tortoise”… Where does these things come from? It’s a kind of course we can say, like a tortoise getting sticked to your neck and causing deep pains. From that moment on, I knew my day would not be like a rose.

Armed with my belief in destiny (I will be the president of the world), I set off from home, took a bus and in about 1 hour, i reached the university. It was 7:40am and i had to attend a lecture on software engineering at 8am. I got into the classroom supposedly 15 mins early which was gud.Ooops, i completely forgot about the sticky tortoise curse :p A few of my friends were talking about time table and I heard them saying, lecture is at 8:30am :S aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I quickly enquired whether they are sure what they are telling, they confirmed.Strange…yesterday i viewed my time table, and saw it was 8 am, now they say, they viewed the same timetable and its 8:30. Can’t I read now??? ohh…remember?the curse…

Well, fortunately enough, the toroise fell asleep during the mainly ‘theorethical’ lecture. If it was not Mr Khedo as lecturer, surely, i would have fallen asleep too :p So the lecture went on smoothly but…

10 mins before end of the lecture, the tortoise woke up and started liquidizing my intestine :( Helpppppppppppppp excesss water!!! It happened all of a sudden, and it was urging, i needed to upload that excess liquid as quick as possible…And the lecturer is well known to rarely end his lecture before the scheduled time. I started praying, praying and praying, oh god, help me to hold on for a few more minutes, i promise to be a good president. Oh god, if u help me, i will help the needy people out there…And god answered my prayers :D I was able to remain in the class till its end, after which i rushed to the loo and get my excess liquid uploaded…It feels so good when you get relieved from that :p

When the time came to go back home…I entered a bus; poor passengers inside, little did they know that i was cursed by the tortoise today and this may affect them as well. After 10 minutes of driving, the bus, as expected got into trouble, hehehe, i was waiting for that one :p It simply won’t move!!! The gear had a problem it seems. Had to wait for another bus and after some 30 long minutes, i got one. And I reached about 1km from home…all of a sudden, i fell asleep. The tortoise made a final strike and it was a direct hit :( I missed my bustop, woke up at the next bus stop and had to walk all the way back home….

What a day it was!The cursing tortoise
