Lovers’ Corner @ UOM

Posted by roushdat on March 31, 2007

Greetingz everybody ;) Let me give u this great news straight away: UOM has planned a lovers’ corner to be implemented before the start of the next academic year.

Since some years, many students have complained about the lack of nice places to spend time (specially couples) on the campus. The Student Yunion has since gathered the signatures along with suggestions from hundreds of students and submitted it to the administration. And at the least expected period, where the university is running under tight financial constraints, the proposal for a lovers’ corner at UOM has been accepted (Voted by the senate today itself).

This news has not yet been officially published and from what I’ve heard, all students will be receiving an email in their mx mailbox within this week itself. Those who have been following this project from the start itself are somehow surprised that it has been accepted and questions are being asked at the highest level : Where has UOM obtained funds for this project and what will be the cost…

The cost??? Hold on to your hats, R800,000! But where has UOM obtained all that money? Hehe, not a single penny is from UOM’s account, the whole project is being sponsored by some big companies. I don’t have the list of those companies right now, but from what i’ve heard…they include cosmetic companies as well as those in the birth control field (ranging from condoms to other stuffs). In return, they will be allowed to advertise and provide free samples to students in the Lovers’ Corner.

From where I’ve obtained these information you must be asking yourself… Well, I’m the future world president after all, so i got to be aware of these things ;) Anyway, just assume that I’ve got informants at the administrative level of UOM as well as among the ranks of the Student Yunion.

Wanna know where this Lovers’ Corner will be located? I’ve managed to obtain a map (not finalised version though). Have a look:

uommap

The map is self-explanatory I guess….But one thing has not been decided yet: The type of access students will have to this corner. UOM is thinking about making it a payable service, while the Student Yunion is trying its best to allow a fair access to all couples. The has been proposals to let access to the green area free while charging a fee (per hour) for the rooms which will be rented to couples who want more privacy. Let’s see what comes out of this very interesting and Taboo – breaking project. Cheerz

Souvenirs souvenirs…sweet memories

Posted by roushdat on March 30, 2007

Ever wondered who will be among us tomorrow and who won’t make it? Friends of today, enemies of tomorrow, we never know.

Good afternoon everybody :) You must have guessed by now, the topic of today will be souvenirs ;) I really didn’t know what to post (most of the time it’s like that) until one of my friends messaged me on msn asking if I had stuffs about Royal College Port Louis ( we were both there some years back)…Unfortunately, at that time I didn’t have a writer yet…so could do backups. As a result…all lost. The guy was in a quest for RCPL souvenirs… By the way, any readers having RCPL digitized stuff like like pictures of the college can contact me, I’ll forward them to my friend.

I knew that I lost all those nice pictures of RCPL, but yet, I tried digging through my bunch of scattered CDs….Everywhere in my room, you can find a cd…in my bed, under it, tables, drawers…and the irony is that for my Design & Technology project in HSC, I designed and manufactured a CD rack….I’ll talk about it in a future post ;)

Anyway, while searching for those RCPL pictures, I stumbled upon some nice pics…real souvenirs of a time where photography was still in it’s early days…(noir blanc)…I had digitized them using my camera some time ago and I’ve chosen 2 of them to share with you.

dad and uncle

That’s my dad (left) and his big brother. I don’t know what age he was at that time, and of course, he doesn’t remember either :p

great grandmother

And she’s my grandfather’s mother! And she’s unfortunately no more…else maybe she would have been around 200 years old :p

My latest gadget…In case of more power failures :p

Posted by roushdat on March 29, 2007

Good evening dearest people :) Many among you should have already guessed why I posted only a picture yesterday…I had no electricity at my place as from 2 pm and that went on till night. As a result…no computer…no internet…no blogging :(

But I was quite happy too…I was able to test my new flash light in a very realistic situation :p Well, flash lights…most of us know about it. Hold on, I’ve got no ordinary flashlight: It got no batteries and doesn’t need electricity to get charged! Oh yeah…that’s what you’ve just read! It’s a hand-pressing Flashlight and of course…very cheap (less than R100…made in China of course) . Let’s take a look at its features:

a) Hand pressing as recharge power

b) There is a storage battery inside the flashlight.

c) Pressing it for 30 seconds, and it keeps working for 30 minutes.

d) 2 LED, white light

e) Two switches beside the flashlight body. One is "Turn - on / off" switch, the other

is "Lock the hand pressing" switch.

f) Rectangle type flashlight body

g) Warranty: 1 year
Unfortunately, my digital cam's batteries are down,I'm not able to take the picture. Anyway, I got the pictures online ;) So you can have a look

hand_pressing_flashlight.jpg  Mine is blue in colour. And the lighting is way better than our traditional flashlights (yellowish light)....This one is a far more natural whitish light. Privacy? What’s that?

Posted by roushdat on March 27, 2007

The other day, your future president was having some discussion with a few of his people. And they brought in a quite ’sensitive’ topic…That was privacy!

Actually, they seemed very concerned about it, mainly because it’s in the media, they’ve read or heard things related to privacy…violation…human-rights…etc

C’mon guyz, it’s not that terrible as long as you have nothing to hide! I beleive that only those crooks who are doing illegal things should fear about their privacy! Recently there had been the introduction of electronic bracelets that prisoners wear. This project is still on a pilot basis and has cropped up from the fact that prisons are becoming over-crowded. As a result, authorities say that some less dangerous prisoners can be released but tagged with those electronic bracelets which emits signals to help authorities to track the movements of these people.

Last time, one of my friends even told me that this blog on mine could prove dangerous for my privacy and it can break a marriage proposal…lolz I don’t think so :p On the contrary i think that blogs can help you in the sense that there is nothing to hide if you are doing nothing wrong according to you and others can know about it!

Won’t be long today, enjoy!

Love on a library’s table…

Posted by roushdat on March 26, 2007

C’mon guyz…I won’t dare write about something that needs to be censored :p So whatever came to your mind reading this title, just scrap it right away :p

Following requests from some of my readers to change a bit my postings’ style…I’ve decided to post something about poetry…. Well, to tell you the truth, I’m a big zero in such thing but what to do…A future president got to be a kinda Jack of all trade! So, I started thinking…looking through my window, observing nature around me everywhere I go, in the bus, at the university…everywhere. I was looking for THE thing that will trigger my inspiration to write poems :P I was having no inspiration at all…

Then today, that thing, I got it…I was quietly revising (or i will rather say, learning)computer graphics notes in the library and at one point in time, i got tired and said to myself…I wish this course can be over as soon as possible. While saying this….I saw written on the table

Don’t you wish?

No!!

Hehe…it was then that I started reading the other text written on the table. They seemed to be poemless poems, most of which related to love and I guess written by students inspired by their broken hearts and helped by their tears.
Some were talking about their own stories, others giving advice and the ones I laughed most…those trying to be humorous in giving answers to their friends’ queries :p
I’ve noted some of the text on the table where I was and wish to share them with you:

I hate you!
me too!

Life doesn’t end here! You have to complete the journey! Even I didn’t receive love from my first love, but today I have found my eternal love…! And it’s a lie that 1st love cannot be forgottten- you’ll try, you’ll find your destination of love eventually, just like me! aso go ahead with life, your love will surely surprise you in some juncture of life…! Ok best of luck !-)

love does not exist
love = hormonal action

Life if not made only of roses but has a lot of thorns all long you shouldn’t stop living if you’ve found a thorn that has pricked you.Intead be adventurous & you’ll find how life is beautiful ahead & full of joy.

if you are including thorns in it means you are not dissociating life with roses which is auto-contradiction

I disagree, you are condemned to die from the moment you are….(unreadable)

Hey you as*&%*h*les! This is no blog or forum. So stop writing the f^&% ck here!
P.S I should stop writing too :-D

I have simply typed all the text in b-quotes by copying them, together with their mistakes from a library table at the University of Mauritius. If you want more, you can just go in there…And I’m sure you will get enough reading materials written by the students :p I’m in no way responsible for what they have written :D The only modification I’ve done here, is filtering out some offensive words…(I’ve got to make sure I destroy the page onto which i first copied these stuffs…if it falls into my mum’s hand…don’t know what she will be thinking :p)

Hope you enjoyed that post, and the talent of UOM Students ;)

Found littering my mailbox

Posted by roushdat on March 24, 2007

It’s amazing the increasing number of spams we received….They have already won the battle against one of my hotmail accounts due to its low defensive capability as compared to gmail ;) Oh yeah…some months ago, I lost control of thaat hotmail account due to the high rate of incoming spam messages…As am writing this post, there are more than 3300 unread mails there and increasing! For those who are still using hotmail, I strongly advise you gmail, google’s free mail service which does a marvellous job in filtering spams!

my mailbox

Sure, mostly, i’m the one to be blamed, due to careless registration wherever i see forms for online services.BUT we’ve got also the ever increasing and most of the time, stupid fwds which spread rumours about : Bill Gates giving money, free ipods and also the apocalyptical messages threatening that you will encounter bad luck, death etc unless you fwd the mail to so and so many contacts….C’mon dudes, you not gonna believe in these shits, will you?

Amazingly, many people tend to believe or if they don’t believe, they’ll say that they will fwd it for fun…FUN? fun , my foot! You are dumping your rubbish in others’ mailboxes! And god knows how many stupid people you have on your contact list that will take your message seriously and dutifully avoid breaking the ’sacred chain’!

To show you how stupid mails sometimes end up turning intelligent minds into mere idiots, let’s analyse this special FWD who tends to take care of your health :D

Here is comes:

This is a good article. Not only about the warm water after your meal, but about ladies and their heart attacks. This makes sense…. the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals…not cold water… maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain… For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this “sludge” reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

To start with, a rule of thumb: don’t take health advice from forwarded emails! This is mainly because on the internet, everybody can claim to be a very good doctor. For Instance, I’m an expert Braintomologist…I do everything related to the brains…from transplant to memory upgrades etc :p

Coming back to our fwd mail…Guyz, no research has ever concluded that cold water is so harmful to your internal organs :p On the contrary, researches have proven that cold water is recommended when vigorously exercising as it is known to cause the body temperature to drop and thus decrease dehydration. And this dear friends, you can ask any doctor, or even do online searches on professional medical websites to obtain confirmation!

Now, to highlight the stupidity of that fwd, take a look at it, you will find this: It will slow down the digestion and this: it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food.

Smell fish, doesn’t it? In one part it states that cold water slow down digestion and the other part, it is describing digestion in other terms and saying that this is done faster….You see…at times, you don’t need to be a health expert to find out that this fwd contains fake information. I wonder who’s that stupid that wrote that text originally and why he did that? He/she wanted to scare someone? A mum wanted to take away his child’s habbit of drinking cold water?

Anyway, please please please, don’t just fwd things that are stupid! At least look for confirmation about its veracity before your send this type of rubbish to your contacts!

A last Friday

Posted by roushdat on March 23, 2007

The normally cheerful friday is no more today :( It’s simply because university resumes normally as from monday and today, the ’sports week’ ends. Sure, it wasn’t a so enjoyable week with all the assignments and revision we had, but still, we were able to stay at home , rest more and energize ourselves, ready to face the incoming tough months. Oh yeah…Things will be getting more serious at the university now, exams are nearing guyz!

Switching to exam-mode :p

The most serious problem related with exam is definitely stress :p So a good stress management scheme is very important. Unfortunately I’m no psychologist to help you in that. I, myself tend to be a stress-victim :p What I would have liked though, is that the university of mauritius introduces a small module about Stress Management which I’m sure will be very helpful to all of us. As we know, stress is gaining grounds, so we better act now ;)

A few tips:

  • Eat chocolate
  • Watch cartoons and other funny movies
  • Go out with friends
  • Sleep well

You have some more ideas to fight stress? Share them with us :p

Calories in and out :p

Posted by roushdat on March 22, 2007

Good afternoon people :p Hope you all doing well…as for the future president, he’s fine also. Today he went to the university to work on a group assignment…Oh yeah…working during the supposedly sports week! But what to do…the sports week is simply hijacked by lecturers to give their students assignments and loads of stuffs to revise :S

At the university, we were not alone, several groups of students could be seen working too. And also, future UOM students coming for the registration purposes. Anyway, my team worked till 12:30pm, after which, three of us decided to go and have lunch at shoprite :p Of course, it wasn’t an on-the-spot decision…I had that in mind since several days already :p

So let’s have a look at what we ate at shoprite ;)

zinger

My favourite fastfood, KFC’s zinger ;)

pizza

We also had a large pizza with chicken and pineapple ;)

burger steers

As for the Steerz burger….my friend Kavi prefered that to a zinger :S He thinks its more nicer too loook…Well maybe nicer to look, but the zinger is far better by taste :p

All these stuffs…sure not that health-friendly huh? Don’t worry, I’ve already discarded the excess calories today itself, without much effort and of course…free of charge :p

How?

In the bus of course…While returning home, I got one of the rare bus going to my village…needless to say, demand was higher than the number of seats the bus could provide. I had no choice than to jump into the bus, and stood there, in a double-standing row! I could hardly move…squeezed by a “not-so-slim” lady :S She was extracting all my surplus calories that i just consumed by squashing me….the temperature inside the bus was already high…now you add some human bodies pressing against each other…I was sweating…With one hand up, holding that horizontal bar, trying to remain as stable as possible as the bus engaged in round-abouts… Finally after 1 hour of standing, I got myself a seat…still in between a lady and a guy, they were both squeezing me…That’s the problem when you are slim :S Others tend to crush you as if to take out your juice :p But hey,all my calories were burnt out, isn’t that great? Let’s have another pizza and another zinger :p Bring it on!

Oh nearly forgot to mention, saw some CSE guyz at shoprite who seemed to be celebrating Yashvin’s birthday :p Happy Birthday Yashvin….to gato la ine bien gagne lizier sa :p

Stumbling here, stumbling there, stumbling everywhere :p

Posted by roushdat on March 21, 2007

So today, the president will teach you how to stumble :p Hey relax…it’s not gonna hurt, and it’s sooooooo fun, interesting and can be considered as a hobby if you wish :p

Some two weeks ago, I was chatting with my friend Ziyaad (heyy hellooo, if you are reading this) and we were sharing some links; website from where you can watch streaming movies…Bollywood, Hollywood, series (stargate for example)…There are soo many interesting links out there, I’ll post them if anyone is interested but I guess most of you must already have tons in your bookmarks :p

So at one point in time during the chat, when I gave my friend a link…he asked me: “You stumbled on that?” I just thought that the guy wanted to impress me with his good english ( He got 1 in english for SC )..I just replied: “Yeah, can say so”. With that, he understood…I’m not a Stumble user….and he followed with a link asking me to try this out, it’s a small software. Hearing software, i’m became quite sceptical and told him that the software won’t work here, I’m on linux! He wasn’t willing to give up…and continued saying that it is compatible with mozilla firefox etc…

So I decided to give it a try: http://www.stumbleupon.com/ (That’s the stumble home page)

Well, soon I discovered that this stumble thingy is a mozilla addon which will perfectly work with my firefox be it windows or linux :p

Only 177kb the size of this addon, rather small in size huh? Once you install it, for the first time, you will have to register yourself (Don’t worry, it’s no lengthy form, trying to grab maximum private data from you. It’s simply you email address, and the most important: Your taste :Not food…but the type of websites you like…Humor, animals, computer science, linux etc…This is very important, choose the ones you like, cause this will help the addon to stumble you upon the right websites which will bring that smile on your cheek ;)

That’s done…You can start, stumbling and also discover the numerous options in your new stumble toolbar. Never will you be able to say you don’t know where to surf :p

stumbletoolbar.jpgTake a look at the stumble toolbar; On the left-hand side, there is the Stumble! button, every time you click on it, a new website which is from one of the types you selected will be loaded in your browser. And what make stumble so cool is the fact that it is community-driven. Let me explain: To be able to redirect you to different websites, it should have the URLs stored in a database, and this database is filled by users themselves. Thus if you find an interesting website, you just click on the “thumb-up” icon, to imply that you like it and add the website to stumble’s database. That’s not all, every time you click on stumble and get a random website loaded, you can voice out whether you liked the website or not by either clicking the thumb-up or thumb-down. Now for example, you clicked on thumb-down, the probability that another user stumble upon that “bad” website is decreased. In return, this greatly improves the quality of stumble’s services ;)

I’ve discovered many many nice websites thanks to stumble, and I highly recommend all of you to use it ;)

tumblebanner.jpg

Have nice stumbles ;)
