Traveling allowance for police officers!

Posted by roushdat on June 16, 2007

I was traveling to university on thursday by bus…when a police officer came to sit next to me…

At that moment I felt as if the president traveling with his bodyguard ;) But my heart broke when the bus conductor walked by…my bodyguard was so poor, he couldn’t afford the bus ticket :( and the conductor noticing the president next to him had mercy and went away…

LIES!!!

Most police officers have the bad habit not to pay while traveling by bus! The government include a traveling allowance in their salary and they are required to pay for these kind of services just like everybody!

I will take this opportunity to make you aware that most of the time when you see a policeman in a bus, he’s not on duty!!! He is simply either going to his place of work or returning home just like any public servant will do.

Another reason which has surely contributed to that bad habit: Fear

uh…not the police officer himself, but the bus conductors…they fear that in case they take money from that officer, soon the latter will have his revenge by stopping the bus next time and stick some fines…

In addition to that, there is also the false impression by bus conductors that in case he does not charge the policeman, the latter and his colleagues will have mercy upon them next time they are carrying some extra passengers.

At times, I’ve noticed some hesitant, new police officers in the bus…they take out the money, and as if they are shy to show it clearly. When the conductor walk near them, they just show a small bit of the money and as soon as the conductor continues walking, they pocket their money immediately (woooow i’ve saved my traveling allowance!!!). And surely, after some time, getting used not to pay, they won’t even take out the money!

So, what I ask you people, let’s change this! We should encourage bus conductors to charge the police guyz!

You, police officer, when you are not on duty, why do you have to show that you are a police officer??? Can’t you wear some normal shirt, and change yourself at your place of work??? Or is it that you do it on purpose to enjoy privileges???

I’m amazed that this bad habit is not published in any mauritian newspaper…Can someone do that? Or it’s not allowed by law to criticize the bad habits of policemen?

There are so many things about these guyz in blue with their caps…I’ll talk about it later.

hmm Ravi…never know who might be among the readers….the CP why not ;)
You got a point here vicks…I rarely travel in buses from companies like UBS and NTC…Most of the time am in Perle de la savanne or some privately owned buses.

pas policier la ki en tort la as vicks says.
koz in company buses, zotte tous payer, apart nu bien sure :P

c bane controleurs bis individual ki pas prend casse, en esperant ki li gagne sympaties policier la if at any time, policier la arrete so bis…

n also, most policiers evite pu marche r zotte uniform, apart some black sheep as usual.
    y?

simply koz si ena ene problem et si zotte dan parage, et si zotte pas dan zotte lere service, so, kifer zotte bisin risker zotte la vie pu intervenir dan sa probleme la?
gouvernement pas paye zotte narien pu ki zote al solve dimoune zotte problem out of the working hrs.

just imagine, tone gagne ene problem lo simer, ene bande voyou p menace twa n to truv ene policier p marcher (li p retourne so lakaaz, pas during his working hrs but wiz so uniform).

normal, to pu al vers li n to pu rode laide.

nek donne ene raison, kifer boug la siposer help twa kant gouverment pas paye li pu extra work, o periple de sa vie?

so, since some time, most of the police officers, wear something on their uniform when they are not in their working hrs.
most, koz like in everything, there are exceptions ki declare mari…

In England, police officers are not allowed to be seen in their uniforms if they are not on duty.

  13. roushdat said

@Eddy…I wonder why this hasn’t been implemented in mauritius as well…cause otherwise we like to photocopy from other countries quite often ;)

  18. Hello to all..
well first of all i respect all of your comments.Let me come to the main issue “travelling in bus”..Im myself a police officer and want to share my opinions too.Several times i gave the sum of money to the conductor but they refused at all cost. Now let me come to the famous POCA – Prevention Of Corrution ACT where it says that corrution is both between the parties. The conductor too is at fault and he will bear the same offence.well, the truth is that only “bus individual” who do not take money from police officers most of the time..why so?? i think because of an internal problem in the police force that is in previous years ancient police officers used to be corrupted and newly police officers are being influence but sure not all and the force is changing day by day. It take time my friend.well im myself 21 yrs i think the most youngest in the force in mauritius do take notice of all these problems, but never criticise police officers for their wrong doing because they are also benefical for all.Just imagine if for only one minute all police officers are said to do not work in the country. one minute is soo much, we might be corrupted but we are of much help thnks..i invite for more comments …

  19. [...] And yeah, there is a nice comment from a very young (maybe the youngest police officer in mauritius) in my post concerning some policemen who don’t pay bus tickets. Check it out. [...]

I’ve never seen a policeman pay the bus :-) Maybe a regional thg like u say Roushdat…;-)

Young police officers should set the example instead of sitting back and being swallowed by the system.. Victims of the system?? I don’t agree with this!!!

  21. I am so tempted to ask the conductor why he did not take money from a police officer, the next time I sit besides one.

He can’t kick my ass in the public – or, on what grounds can he? :D

    Thanks Roushdat for this article.
