Better understanding a nerd!

There are quite a few computer nerds out there, and if you are lucky enough, you can meet one and why not choose him/her as your companion. BUT, it is extremely important to understand him/her before you embark yourself in this kind of thrilling adventure.

In one month its gonna be christmas !

yuppiiiiiiiii :p You realise???, it’s already the end of 2007 and we’re hitting a brand new year full of joys and promises.

Personally I find that time is running just too fast :S Maybe some of you who happens to be having some bad memories from 2007 are very happy that the year is now reaching its end. But bad times are just part of life na Who says that 2008 won’t have its share of sorrow for us…we can just hope that it doesn’t but finally wouldn’t life be just to monotonous if everything was perfect?

Anyways, let’s talk about chrisssstmasssssssssss! Have you started preparing already? Got the greeting cards handy? And the shoes…(petit papa noel, quand tu decendras du ciel….). As for me, this year’s Christmas and end of year gonna be celebrated a bit later than usual, most probably in January. Reason: my project partner and I will be taken up with the implementation (coding and testing) of our final year project.

So all events will be celebrated in January 2008 instead Like my birthday…that of my blog also :p( 9th and 23rd of January respectively). And before u ask for invitation, well, all of you are invited

Is Bongwe (bon’g'w’ay’) on the right path?

Check it out!

The green line is Bongwe plotted by Meteo France(http://www.meteo.fr/temps/domtom/La_Reunion/TGPR/saison/03.html). And the pink one, I’ve added just to show where this cyclone will reach if it continues like a ‘good’ cyclone. It is currently moving at an average speed of 14 Km/hour. And we can clearly see that if it does continue with on its current path, its going to hit us! And also Reunion Island! But if it deviates, then the cyclone magnet known as Rodrigues will take the blow And not to forget the cyclone shield of the Indian Ocean, Madagascar; always present to have the biggest share of cyclones.

Ariel scared by Bongwe

Lol…guyz something very funny is going on…call it el-nino el-nina whatever, but these cyclones and storms are smart :p And they know when to attack and when to retreat!

Check the blue line, labeled 02, that’s Ariel taking a rather odd direction. And on its left, the green line, Bongwe labeled 03 who was very recently named after it intensified. If it takes a ‘normal’ path, Bongwe has a far better chance of nearing Mauritius I guess next week :p

Let’s hope Mauritius benefit from its rain…and that we don’t have power or internet cuts :p

Btw, I heard that a guy drowned at the infamous Le Soufleur from my friend Selven. Selven, could you enlighten us a bit more about it? If it was not a suicide (for those who are unaware, Le Soufleur is one of the favorites among mauritians who want to throw away their life), how can we be sure there was no foul play? (affaire a suivre…)

Mirror Blogger from WordPress

Are you one among those who enjoy using wordpress but at the same time, wish you can have a copy of your blog’s post of blogger? ( blogname.blogspot.com )

For some time now, I have been looking for a plugin of some kind to enable me to do that: I post on http://roushdat.wordpress.com and I wish the posts to get posted automatically to http://roushdat.blogspot.com !

I asked google, but it seems most people wrote about moving from blogger to wordpress and I wanted the contrary… This guy http://www.codesimple.net/2007/10/wordpress-to-blogger.html wrote a script in python to copy all posts from wordpress to blogger but unfortunately, programming-shy people (many among us if not most…) this solution is not THE solution.

Another way I’ve heard about, but i don’t wish to try…using third party applications to write your blog posts and the application will post a copy to your different blog accounts. If you happen to have used or using such an application, please share your experience with us

After some deep-thinking of an easy way for automatically updating my blogger from wordpress, I got a solution USING Blogger’s mail-to-blogger feature

Here’s what you need to do

Create your wordpress acount [if you don't have one yet] http://www.wordpress.com

Create your blogger’s account [if you don't have one yet] http://www.blogger.com

Create a feed burner’s account [it is a third party site for managing your blogs' feeds. Make sure you add the feeds only for your wordpress blog, and not for the blogger one] http://www.feedburner.com

Ok, once you have created all the above accounts, sign into your blogger account.

Click on Settings, then click on Email. You will obtain the page show in the screenshot above. In the text box filled with “ascretmail“, fill it with a secret word or come characters that you can remember. Now, given my blogger account is roushdat, my secret email address will be roushdat.asecretmail@blogger.com . Make sure you also select the “publish emails immediately” radio button. And finally click on the “Save Settings” button.

Henceforth, all emails sent to roushdat.asecretmail@blogger.com will be published as blog posts on roushdat.blogspot.com

Now get into your Feedburner account.

You can click on the link of your feed title.

Click on Publicize. Click on Email Subscriptions located in the left menu.

You will obtain a page resembling the one below.

Select this piece of html code and put it in your blog if you wish to have a textbox for users to subscribe to your blog by mail…or simply
Use this shorter piece of html, it is just a link. If you put it in your blog, it will look like this:

Ok, follow the link to subscribe to your own wordpress blog

Subscribe yourself using a secondary email adress. (gmail is most recommended because of its ability for mail forwarding for free)
Once subscribe, you will receive a confirmation email.
Click on the link to confirm your subscription.
And if you have done everything correctly till now, you will soon be receiving in you mail box, new posts made on your wordpress blog (please note that email deliveries are not instantaneous with feedburner. you can change at what time deliveries are carried out in your feedburner account.)

Here we go, a post delivered to my mail box. Now, we have to automatically send it to my blogger’s blog

In your gmail account, click on settings (upper right of your window) and click on filters.

You will obtain a window as shown below:

In the from field, input the email address from which you received the blog post in your mail box. Same goes for the Subject field. And click Next Step.

Select the “Forward it to:” checkbox and type in the secret email address of your blogger account. For our example, here it is roushdat.asecretmail@blogger.com and click on “Create Filter“

And you are done! All you posts that you make on wordpress from now on will get published on you blogger blog as well

Cyclones : Ariel takes the lead

Yes ladies and gentlemen, we have our first candidate for this new cyclone season 2007/2008 and that’s Ariel, named by…guess who????

Mauritius!!!

La première dépression tropicale de la saison, Ariel, a été nommée hier par la station météorologique de Vacoas. Surekha Ramessur, prévisionniste, explique qu’il «n’y a pas de danger pour Maurice. Nous suivons son évolution mais il est fort probable qu’elle diminue en termes d’intensité dans les jours à venir.» La prévisionniste parle également d’une autre zone de basse pression dans les parages de Diego Garcia.

Seems Ariel has another name as well, and that’s Lee. And from the above text, when the author says “La Reunion has named this cyclone Ariel as per their list of names”, I believe that it is still in-line with the fact that Mauritius gave “Ariel” as name for making up the list.And Reunion island’s meteorological services used the name to designate the cyclone, just as its Mauritian counterpart has done.

Let’s hope that we don’t suffer from power cuts and internet deprivation during this cyclone season.

Archery competition

Helooooooooo everybody! Yesterday there was an archery competition @ Phoenix (centre basket ball) from 9am to 4pm.

It was an indoor one, from a distance of 18 meters. We had some guests from Reunion Island ; 2 archery referees and some ladies who also participated in the competition.

And I didn’t win any medals :p I really need some serious training…
