Divali Show @ UOM…the blending of guyz and girls cultures

Posted by roushdat on November 8, 2007

Helooo everybody :P I begin this post by thanking those who were supposed to give me the VIP card to attend the show…The card came, but only 30 minutes after the show began, and no need to say, it was not possible for me to reach the ‘reserved’ seat.

This morning, UoM was not the usual, casual look i am used to…Reason: Gorgeous Girls in colorful sarees, adorned with all kind of jeweleries from the kangans to the earings..and there were guyz in the traditional kurta…(yeah…the everyday guyz moving closer to the traditions).

I had my camera ready for some pics…let’s have a look :D

Picture 001
There guyz and gurlz were waiting at the “VIP” entrance on the back-entrance of the auditorium…there were waiting and waiting…only to be told that they have to go to the front entrance after hours of waiting :p Lol, not fair huh?

Picture 002And oops, the front entrance was already over-crowded :p I squeezed my way among those people and waiting for the door to open :p

Picture 005Door opened at about 12:25, and everybody began bumping upon one another…needless to say, guyz were the most happy…uttering all kinds of weird moaning…and the girls apparently were kinda irritated or pretended to be so by their loud “mchik”…

Picture 006 I just got inside, at the back.Notice how the guyz and gurlz are pouring in…actually they were getting in from all the 4 entrances. And within minutes, the auditorium was already overloaded…many of those wearing nice dresses and sarees…well they had to remain outside so as to show their clothing better :p

Picture 011
Opening ceremony with the traditional lights…[sorry, my digital camera doesn't have powerful zooming capability nor advanced options for taking pics in the dark...if you think you can sponsor me for a nice camera, don't hesitate to let me know ;) ]

a guy on the phoneAnd it seems that some people prefer chatting over their phone rather than watching the show :p It was dark and this guy bent down…so i got kinda suspicious….what the hell is he doing down? Flashed my camera lights on him :p

And yeah…The minister (is he still minister?) Sarat Lala has his speech…[is he related somehow to the elected vishal? this guy is also a lala :p Sarat is his dad or uncle? Is vishal a future political candidate for the country? God...save this country :S]

And I nearly forgot…Happpyyyyyyyyyyyy Divaliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii to all of you :p

    Nice to see UOM again.

Am from the Seychelles and spent 5 years at UOM, that was 5/6 years ago(barely scaping through an LLB) hi hi… was a boring as hell of a subject and as to be expected doing something completely different.

Be so nice as to put a more photos of UOM on your blog, how about James at the Corner shop (used to be a regular customer there beers/cigarettes), i wonder if touffe is still open? There must be an opening in the barrages in the road going to the State House.

Was a fellow who was responsible for classes at the new auditoriums i hope he is still there?

Hey there was a fellow called Billy Ramgoolam (an old timer) is he still around?

Have fond thoughts of the place…keep blogging and all the best in your quest for World Presidency.

    Cheers.

    lol @ Yashvin…i think i know what u mean ;)

Morinn…u were not there??? Strange…saw someone just like u there…maybe it was someone else…or maybe not :S

Selven…why do u like to put out those secrets out??? You know very well how it works: u expose weaknesses, and next time they patch them up! And you will have to look for other weak points…

Carrotmanmad6, i think u are right, every time there is an over-crowded auditorium, yet those responsible for organizing these shows do not seem to understand…find somewhere else! On the campus itself there is ample space!

JM, its very nice to hear from a foreigner who studied at UOM…In fact, you are the first one whom i’m communicating to.
Indeed, James is still here and as popular as ever ;) I know many students, specially guyz who will prefer James rather than the over-priced Cafetaria. I don’t know much about the “toufe” or other “baz”, but I am sure my friend Selven know about these places at his finger tips ;)
I’ll try to bring in some more interesting UOM pics soon.

Was a nice show, with impressive light and sound effects. The only problem was people were squeezed like sardines in the auditorium! I was near the East door. Damn! I think I might have been compressed. I think I’m slimmer now, specially after standing up for around 4hrs non-stop! :D

Good advice: Next year, bring ur tent and camp in the auditorium from the previous day itself.

i was from the upper west, and lower east :p didn’t spent hours though…busy schedule…

non inf, next year stay with selven, and you are sure to get in somehow :p massive exploitation!
