Cyclone Gula : A danger for mauritius ? (UPDATED: 31 JAN 2008,9:05am,Local time)

Update 8 (31 jan, 9:05am) Several radios are saying that there is no cyclone warning in force in mauritius. Primary and secondary students won’t have any classes. Only the staff should go. As for tertiary students…nothing heard yet. Meteorological station of vacoas has still not updated its website…still indicating class 3…
“Malheureusement” cyclone Gula died all of a sudden, catching the local meteo by surprise…so sad…
Update 7 (31 jan, 8:5am) A cyclone warning class three still in force in mauritius. Fifth cyclone bulletin confirms that Gula is dangerously approaching mauritius. There are currently rumours that all cyclone classes have been removed and people should go to work…no confirmation yet. Even the meteorological site has a class three warning as at 8:55am.
Update 6 (31 jan, 5:40am) A cyclone warning class three is now in force in mauritius. At 4am this morning, the meteorological station of Vacoas finally deemed Gula as a direct threat to Mauritius as it changed its direction from south to south-east. Read the bulletin here: Cyclone Bulletin
Therefore, there won’t be any classes for primary, secondary and tertiary institution.
A communiqué from Air Mauritius informs us that there flight operations have been disrupted due to Gula. More information will be provided soon. Source : Air Mauritius Website
Update 5 (30 jan, 10:10pm) A cyclone warning class two remains in force in mauritius. Latest cyclone bulletin issued at 10pm local time: class two warning remains unchanged. Next bulletin will be issued at 4am tomorrow 31 January.
Update 4 (30 jan, 5:40 pm) A cyclone warning class two became in force in mauritius as from 3:30 pm…(they were waiting for schools to end).
Update 3 (30 jan, 12:20 pm): A cyclone warning class one is in force in mauritius.

Update 2 (30 jan, 7:10am) : Still no warning class in force in Mauritius. According to the local meteorological station, the cyclone is stationary. And they are waiting it to move to decide what to do…So students, get ready for school!
According to Meteo France’s prediction on January 28, 2008, tropical storm Gula will be at its nearest to Mauritius on early morning ,Thursday 31 January 2008.
Let’s just hope it brings us rain…we badly need it!

Occasional rain today in mauritius. And some wind gusts already being experienced in different regions. Right now, I’m in the south-east and it’s cloudy with some rain from time to time (but not much).
According to Tropical Risk Storm’s website, Gula will now go straight through mauritius. (Earlier predictions indicated a near miss on the north-western coast of the island)

Its very important that we have water and hope Gula brings plenty of rain. By the way, we should not blame political leader or ban “grand missié” for all the problems. Instead let us work for solutions to heal our beautiful country of Mauritius. Mauritius is really a paradise on Earth and we should be really grateful to be here.
Let us not aggravate the situation by dirty comments. Instead, let us be practical and try to solve these issues.

Mo agree avec boucou commentaires. Moi ossi mo fine alle lor enn ta site. Most pe dir ki cyclone la pou passe à more or less 16 km ar la cote Est de Maurice (Mahébourg). Comme d’hab Météo locale p fer impé l’impasse. So my advice, reste vigilents!!!!!!

hello frds… According to me the bulletins obtained at the meteorological station are false ones.. Gula has not yet come near the island and is still in the north north east of mauritius and at the meteorological station they are saying that there are no threat.. As they were saying 1 hour earlier, Gula was a threat for us.. I just don’t understand their calculation..
