Mauritius -> UK -> 5 Hours difference!

Posted by roushdat on October 26, 2008

For the first time, the difference in time between Mauritius and the UK is 5 hours! As from last night, at 2am, local time (both for Mauritius and UK), the gap has been further widened (from the usual 3-4 hours). While the clock has been moved forward by 1 hour in Mauritius, it has gone backward by same in UK.

What it means for many Mauritian students here and myself: we have to modify our timetables’ slots for speaking to parents back home. But anyway, i’m sure we can adjust to it. What remains to be proven though is whether this daylight saving time will really be beneficial to Mauritius as our politicians advertised it….

The future president officially graduated today…

Posted by roushdat on October 22, 2008

in absentia…hence no pictures of my graduation. And I congratulate my friends and all the new graduates from the University of Mauritius. It was indeed an exciting time I spent with you guyz for three years (2005-2008). Still remember my first day when I knew none of you. And interestingly someone knew me; Shakeel who happened to be a customer of the mobile phone company I worked in before joining the university.

With time, made friends, lost friends…you know…the normal cycle of life. And most importantly, built a vibrant network of contacts that I intend to maintain for a very long time.

By now, most of the graduates are already working, and hopefully will climb the ladders very rapidely to lead the industry ( and i will lead you ). For those who have not been up-to-date, my own studies quest continues and I am currently a post-graduate student at the University of Southampton, UK following an MSc Web Technology course. And my future plans are still classified and will be unveiled at the right time!

Two activities that I’ve included in my weekly agenda: Jogging & Shopping (I still don’t find shopping fun…but I’ve been told that this will change over time, and I will start enjoying it)!

Well that’s it for the time being, stay connected ;)

University of Southampton is GREAT!

Posted by roushdat on October 2, 2008

Hello everybody ;) I’m having a really nice time here in the city of Southampton and I am having loads of free stuffs from the university of southampton (that’s what make it so great for me).

First day in my room, i got a welcome pack which included: small notebook, memory stick, network cable, pen.

At the university, for the different induction programmes, they give food vouchers, juice, apples, oranges, snacks

Yesterday there was a boat trip oragnised by my school and of course, free food onboard!

Today i went to take my student ID card, and along with it, I got a bag, flip file, diary, pen, mug, chocolates, notebook, torch

well, the university is known as one of those receiving most funds for research in the UK! And best of all, my school, ECS (Electronics and Computer Science) is sponsored by IBM :p I just hope that the free stuffs keep coming.

Tomorrow, there will be freshers’ fair, which i’ve heard, means much more free stuff!!!
